Dungeons & Dragons ~ RPG Maker
« on: February 02, 2010, 09:30:53 AM »
So, for any of you that have played Dungeons & Dragons, you probably will know what I'm talking about. Not to mention if you have ever DM'ed (Dungeon Master) for one.

Anyways, I have been thinking about creating (using Java) a game-simulator for D&D, that is not really a game simulator, but more of a virtual environment that the DM/Players can all connect to and see the virtual world around them. The storyline aspects and such would not be coded into the program at all (e.g. you would see a NPC is inf ront of you, however you could not interact without directly talking to the DM. It would be the exact same idea as using a board and figures, only online.

There would be a few main features. Please keep in mind the idea is intended specifically for people who play D&D online using other chat programs (e.g. AIM/MSN).

- In-game chat system (technically two, one for character conversations, and another for out-of-character talk).
- In-game features to make it fair/easy for players (for instance, dice rolls included within the program itself, as to keep the game fair).

That's all I've got so far. Any suggestions on how this might be improved? Please note, my goal is not to create a "game-maker", or replace the idea of how people typically play D&D. Only to create a more "touchable" environment that they can actually see.
